"Iowa residents should now begin making plans for their 2023 health insurance coverage., but the period to enroll is rapidly approaching for Iowans interested in the individual market, according to state insurance commissioner Doug Ommen.

Starting on October 1, 2022, Iowa residents can preview available plans on healthcare.gov. Please note that the premium amounts won't be valid until the start of open enrollment on November 1, 2022.

"As the open enrollment season for the Affordable Care Act begins, Iowans considering buying individual policies should consult with a licensed insurance agent to thoroughly research all available coverage options and select the best plan for themselves and their families," Ommen said.

It's crucial to understand that the sample premiums don't take into account the premium assistance tax credits that are accessible to many households, continued Ommen. The sample premiums are based on geographic rating areas and might not be offered in the county where you live, but they are a starting point for understanding the options.

For coverage to start on January 1, 2023, Iowans who want to purchase ACA-compliant insurance must finish enrollment between November 1 and December 15, 2022. Coverage will start on February 1, 2023, for individuals who enroll between December 16, 2022, and January 15, 2023. Iowans can visit healthcare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 for enrollment details and to determine any applicable tax credits during open enrollment.
